Gum Recontouring

If you have a low or uneven gum line, often described as a ‘gummy smile’, or if your gum line is uneven, then gum sculpting can transform your smile and help create a smile you’ve always dreamed of.

Gum recontouring is most commonly carried out when an individual has a particularly gummy smile where there is a greater proportion of gum tissue covering the teeth. Nowadays gum recontouring is carried out under local anaesthetic with electrosurgery or laser tissue removal. Occasionally there may be instances when small amounts of bone(ostoplasty) may need to be gently removed; we’ll let you know about this at the time of your assessment. It’s the bone which acts as a framework for the gums and occasionally this can be thick and bulky.

Healing is swift with lasers and electrosurgery taking just a few short weeks*. If you’re planning veneers or crowns after gum recontouring it’s best to wait six to 12 weeks depending on the complexity of the case.
